A customizable payment form is hosted on the gateway provider's server. Cardholders fill out all order information on your website except credit card details. At the last step in the checkout process - the actual payment - the client is redirected to a payment form where they submit their card details. After the payment is successfully made they are redirected back to a "Thank You" page on your server.

Server-to-Server API

This is the most commonly used method of integrating with a payment gateway. The details that cardholders submit on your website are sent securely to the gateway server through a secure background process. As your server is processing sensitive card data, PCI compliance is required (quarterly PCI scans must be provided; this is free for most of our EU-based merchants).
